Sturgis, South Dakota — September 9, 2025— The Sturgis & Meade County Historical Society has created plaques for buildings and houses 100 years old or older. The plaques read “Historic Sturgis” along with the year the building was built.
Sturgis, South Dakota — May 6, 2025— The ninth annual Sturgis & Meade County History Day will be held Saturday, June 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Sturgis Community Center. “Archaeology of the Sturgis and Meade County Area” is the theme of the event this year.
Sturgis, South Dakota— 20 November 2024
— The Sturgis & Meade County Historical Society, working with the Meade County Commission and the Sturgis Area Arts Council, will reinstall the original 1894 Courthouse Time Capsule on December 18th, 2024. The reinstallation will take place in Meade County’s Erskine Office Building, located at 1300 Sherman Street in Sturgis at 2pm MST. The program will begin with a brief presentation in the Commissioner’s meeting room on the second floor, followed by the reinstallation on the first floor.
Sturgis, South Dakota — May 24, 2024— The eighth annual History Day, sponsored by the Sturgis & Meade County Historical Society, will be held Saturday, June 15, at the Sturgis Community Center. “1874 Custer Expedition: 150 Years of Exploration, Settlement and Exploitation” is the theme of the event this year.
